About Reno Foodies

by Kristy on April 2, 2011

Who are these guys, anyway?

We’re three foodies who love to eat out, but like most people, we can’t afford to do it as often as we like. So it burns us when we read a positive review then spend our money only to be disappointed. Usually, we find out the “food critic” knew the owner or got comped a big meal, so the review was as authentic as a burrito in Chinatown. Or the “food critic” knows as much about food as a Twinkie is organic. Or you keep seeing the same restaurants reviewed over and over by the same critic (hmm…wonder why, eh?).

One day, we thought, “Hey, why don’t we write reviews? We know how to eat and we love to cook, so we’d give worthwhile opinions.” (well, we think so anyway)

Hopefully, you’ll find the reviews helpful when deciding where to eat out. We don’t expect you’ll agree with us all of the time, but at least you’ll get an idea of what to expect before you fill your stomach and open your wallet. That’s fair, right?

What I love most about eating:Sparerib
Seeing, smelling and tasting what passionate people create out of what often seems like simple ingredients. I love the whole sensory experience of eating – whether sitting on a dirt road snacking on fried crickets in Thailand to the sexy feel of foie gras melting on my tongue.

Memorable foodie moment:
I just hiked up to the top of Mt. Tallac for the first time. While everyone else was enjoying the most beautiful views of Lake Tahoe from our 10,000 foot perch, I was busy staring at a nearby chipmunk thinking, “Boy, his hind legs sure look meaty. I wonder how they taste…”

What I love most about eating:
The anticipation that I feel from the time I order an item off the menu to the time that I pick up my fork and knife and ‘Dig In’.

Memorable foodie moment:
My best foodie moments are the ones shared with a large group of people. Whether we’re cooking outdoors over an open fire pit or wrapped around a checkered plastic table cloth at our favorite Basque restaurant.
